Letterbox contact

Letterbox contact does not remain static and can change for lots of different reasons.

The re-emergence of a birth parent, a child’s older sibling or a child’s developmental stage when they tend to ask more questions about their background, can all lead to more contact and issues and concerns for adoptive families.

Letterbox contact is constantly reviewed so if you do have any issues with it, please contact your local area for support.

Bear in mind — once a child reaches 18 years of age, if they do not wish to be contacted by a member of their birth family, they have the choice to place a veto on their files. They are able to do this themselves by contacting the local authority which dealt with their adoption.
